Assistant Tech Theater Manager

Job Summary:
This assistant theater manager will assist the theater Director and support all TAS performing arts production work in the auditorium, the Black Box, and Harmony Theater.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The assistant theater manager must be self-directed and self-monitored in their commitments to performance needs, flexible to adapt to changing schedules and deadlines, and detail-oriented to maintain communication with colleagues and student crews. The assistant theater manager must be comfortable performing medium to heavy physical labor, working at heights on scaffolding, lifts, and ladders, and working with standard power tools. Hours will include evening and weekend performances and rehearsals.
- Coordinates the set up and execution of technical requirements of productions in the auditorium, black box, and harmony theater, including lighting, sound, and scenery requirements.
- Learns and applies technologies, including ETC EOS lighting software, QLab, and other relevant programs to accomplish the goals of the performing arts programs.
- Communicates with users to establish, discuss, or clarify technical requirements of productions.
- Designs, builds, and repairs sets and scenery for various shows for all three divisions.
- Operates the various mixers and sound equipment in each venue as needed to support all live events.
- Procures and maintains inventory of equipment and supplies related to production activities; picks-up materials as needed; monitors budgets for venue maintenance.
- Trains and provides work direction to student stage crew members as assigned; provides advice and guidance on the safe operation and use of tools and equipment; oversees students working in shop and on designated areas required for shows.
- Maintains and enforces fire, safety, and health regulations for the protection and safety of facility users and audiences.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Theater Director and or K-12 Performing Arts-Music or the K-12 Performing Arts-Dance and Drama Department Chairs.
INSTRUCTIONAL and ACADEMIC PROGRAM DUTIES BY DIVISION:
Upper School
- Assist with technical needs and prop construction for US fall production, US dance production, and US Arts Festival
- Design and source costumes for the drama production and assist with the costumes for dance productions, working closely with a student costume crew consisting of 6 to 12 students with various backgrounds and levels of experience
- Assist as a guest artist in performance classes as needed for curricular support, assist as a substitute for colleagues as needed
Middle School
- Assist with the technical needs and prop construction for MS spring musical, working with 24 to 36 middle school stage crew members and some upper school stage crew members
- Design and source the costumes for the MS musical for a cast of 40 to 60 student performers
- Assist with the technical needs for MS dance concerts overseeing a crew of 8 to 12 students with over 100 student dancers
- Assist with technical needs for MS concerts, talent shows, and assemblies
Lower School
- Be the primary technical support for the LS grade 5 musical, designing the scenery, lighting and costumes, and executing or sourcing those designs, preparing the student crews with up to 16 students and calling the show as the stage manager, and overseeing the execution of artistic vision of the directors
- Assist with technical needs for LS concerts, talent shows, and assemblies
QUALIFICATIONS
- B.A. degree or equivalent
- Technical Theater or Stagehand background preferred
- Successful relevant teaching and or tech theater experience in an elementary or secondary school
- OSHA 10 card or equivalent level of Entertainment industry safety training
