Part-Time Interim Lower School STEAM Teacher (SY2526)

POSITION SUMMARY 

The Lower School STEAM Teacher is responsible for developing and delivering engaging, hands-on, problem-based STEAM instruction for elementary students. This role includes planning, teaching, and assessing learning experiences that integrate science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics, with a focus on creativity, design thinking, and innovation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, instructional technology, or a STEAM-related field (Master’s degree preferred)
  • Classroom teaching experience in STEAM or related subjects
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement age-appropriate STEAM lessons
  • Strong understanding of the engineering design process and maker-based learning
  • Familiarity with tools such as coding platforms, robotics kits, 3D design software, and digital fabrication tools
  • Experience teaching early childhood is preferred

Duties and Responsibilities

STEAM Instruction

  • Design and deliver developmentally appropriate STEAM lessons that foster problem-solving, collaboration, and critical thinking
  • Facilitate student projects that involve coding, robotics, engineering challenges, digital design, and scientific inquiry
  • Integrate the design process and hands-on building into classroom instruction
  • Maintain and organize materials in the Tech Cube, including tools, electronics, and consumables

Curriculum and Program Development

  • Develop vertically aligned STEAM units that reflect school benchmarks and learning goals
  • Incorporate current trends in STEAM education into classroom practices
  • Participate in ongoing curriculum development and refinement in collaboration with colleagues

STEAM Events and Student Showcases

  • Organize and lead student showcases or exhibitions that highlight STEAM learning
  • Support school-wide STEAM celebrations and participate in cross-grade collaborations

Learning Environment

  • Maintain a safe and engaging classroom environment for exploration and experimentation
  • Promote positive student behavior, respectful collaboration, and responsible use of materials and technology

Collaboration and Communication

  • Collaborate as needed with the Lower School Technology and Design team to align resources, instructional approaches, and use of shared spaces.
  • Coordinate with homeroom teachers and teaching assistants to support the integration of STEAM learning into grade-level units where appropriate.
  • Communicate clearly with homeroom teachers and Teaching Assistants about upcoming STEAM activities, grouping needs, and classroom logistics to ensure smooth transitions and effective collaboration during sessions.

Professional Growth

  • Stay current with best practices in STEAM education through professional learning 
  • Actively participate in school-based professional development
