Overview:
The Athletic Director is responsible for leading and managing the Taipei American School athletics programs for both Middle School and Upper School, overseeing all operations to ensure a high-quality experience for students, coaches, and the school community. This role requires collaboration across the school to align athletic programs with the Taipei American School mission. The Athletic Director must demonstrate strategic leadership, excellent communication, and strong organizational skills to foster a culture of excellence in school athletics. The position directly supervises eight staff members: two Associate Athletic Directors, one Assistant Athletic Director/Athletic Trainer, one Head Athletic Trainer, one Assistant Athletic Trainer, one Office Assistant, one Scheduler, and one part-time Office Assistant.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of the US/MS athletics programs
- Maintain a high level of athletic and academic excellence through healthy and positive competition for the US/MS athletic programs
- Proven ability to lead teams and foster a positive and inclusive culture across all school divisions
- Coordinate, manage conflicts, and communicate the Athletics Department's master calendar, including routine schedules and both local and international competitions.
- Organize, plan and staff large-scale athletic events as well as weekly practices and competitions
- Oversee transportation and logistics for all on-island and off-island competitions, including coordinating accommodations for visiting athletes from the IASAS conference (or other groups as necessary) when hosting events at TAS.
- Procure, manage, and maintain all athletics equipment and inventory.
- Recruit, hire, supervise, and onboard qualified coaches, fill vacancies, and regularly evaluate performance while providing feedback and development opportunities to ensure alignment with program standards.
- Oversee, plan, and execute athletics end-of-season awards and recognition events.
- Serve as a member of the IASAS Committee and the IASAS Board
- Serve as the faculty sponsor for the athletics council
- Liaison with the Parent Teacher Association Booster Connection Team
Working Hours:
The Athletic Director’s schedule during the week is typically 7:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. and they are expected to work additional hours on Saturdays and/or school breaks for duties and responsibilities associated with this position as needed.
A responsibility stipend is assigned to this position as a recognition of the extended schedule and additional responsibilities associated with this role.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management, Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in athletic administration, including supervisory experience at the middle school and/or high school levels.
- Possesses high moral character
- Knowledge of international athletic regulations and compliance standards.
- Proficient in using Windows and a variety of software applications, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint) and Google Workspace tools
- Proven strong understanding of athletic program management, including budgeting, scheduling, and personnel management.
- Effective interpersonal and leadership skills with proven ability to lead and motivate staff while fostering a positive and inclusive environment.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed for events, competitions, and meetings.
Other Qualifications:
Coaching experience at the middle school and/or high school level.
