Job Description 

The position of Communications Officer plays a key role in delivering a unified, strategic, and mission-aligned communications program that strengthens the reputation, identity, and storytelling of Taipei American School. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Communications, this role focuses on developing and implementing high-quality, timely, and consistent communications across digital and print channels, ensuring that all outputs reflect TAS’s values and Schoolwide Learning Outcomes. 

The Communications Officer is responsible for engaging the TAS community, promoting key initiatives, and maintaining alignment between divisional communications and the school's broader brand and messaging framework. The role requires professionalism, adaptability, collaboration, strong writing and design skills, and the ability to work effectively within a fast-paced, high-expectation environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic and Operational Communications

  • Implement the school wide communications and marketing plan.
  • Follow and refine specific procedures for all methods and means of communication to ensure appropriate TAS representation and message is established and maintained.
  • Develop clear, consistent messaging across all communication channels, including newsletters, social media, web, and print materials.
  • Ensure all content and messaging reflect TAS’s mission, values, SWLOs, and brand standards.
  • Proactively identify and share stories that highlight student learning, faculty excellence, and school initiatives.
  • Manage production timelines and approval workflows to meet deadlines with accuracy and professionalism.

Digital Content and Social Media

  • Develop, upload, and maintain timely content for the TAS website (both public-facing and portals) in line with brand voice, accessibility, and strategic goals.
  • Produce weekly and monthly digital communications for the TAS community, ensuring quality and clarity of information.
  • Maintain TAS’s official social media feeds, aligning tone, visuals, and content to institutional priorities.
  • Track engagement metrics to guide future content planning and continuous improvement.

Writing, Editing, and Design

  • Write, edit, and proofread content for news stories, web features, bulletins, and publications.
  • Provide photography, videography, and light graphic design support as needed.
  • Contribute to the development of promotional and advancement materials, including brochures, presentations, and fundraising collateral.
  • Uphold high standards of grammar, tone, and visual consistency across materials.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Develop positive working relationships with all departments, administrators, faculty, and staff to ensure stories and updates are current, accurate, and on brand.
  • Support the communications needs of all departments and divisions with professionalism, consistency, and openness to feedback.
  • Participate in cross-functional meetings and planning sessions as an active, constructive contributor.
  • Maintain discretion and professionalism in all written and verbal communication, representing the TAS Communications Office with integrity.

Other Duties

  • Manage the production of schoolwide business cards, stationery, and other branded materials.
  • Support Advancement and other major school events as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as requested by the Assistant Director of Communications, Director of Strategic Communications and Marketing, or Chief Advancement and External Relations Officer.

REQUIREMENTS 

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience in the areas of communications, journalism, marketing, and/or public relations, with considerable experience as a photographer, writer, and editor.
  • Minimum three years of professional experience, preferably in communication, marketing, or related fields. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Native-level English fluency; bilingual ability in Mandarin highly desirable.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong visual literacy and experience with photography, videography, or design tools (e.g., Canva, Photoshop, InDesign, etc.)
  • High level of digital fluency, including social media management and content scheduling platforms.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple deadlines and competing priorities simultaneously.
  • Emotional intelligence, professionalism, and discretion when managing sensitive or high-profile communications.
  • Demonstrated ability to receive feedback constructively and adapt communication style to context.
  • Commitment to teamwork, collaboration, and continuous growth.
