TAS & SPORTS MEDICINE OVERVIEW:

Taipei American School (TAS) is a non-profit, private international school (PreK-12) offering an American based curriculum located in Taipei, Taiwan.  Founded in 1949, TAS has employed Certified Athletic Trainers for over 15 years.  TAS Sports Medicine consists of 2.5 full-time Certified Athletic Trainers with no formal teaching duties. TAS maintains two athletic training facilities on campus accessible to student-athletes during school hours.  TAS Athletics offers a broad range of sports comparable to those in U.S. high schools and competes in the Interscholastic Association of Southeast Asia Schools (IASAS) conference alongside Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, and Thailand.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Taipei American School seeks a full-time Assistant Athletic Trainer.  This position reports directly to the Head Athletic Trainer and the Director of Athletics to maintain a safe and supportive athletic environment. The Assistant Athletic Trainer will have a shared responsibility for supporting all student-athletes grades 6-12 in the realm of primary care, injury and illness prevention, wellness promotion and education, emergency care, examination and clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide medical coverage for school-sponsored practices, competitions, and tournaments — including evenings, select weekends, and travel events (domestic and international) as needed.
  • Conduct medical evaluations, treatments, and rehabilitation of student-athletes’ injuries through individualized care plans, therapeutic exercise, and therapeutic modalities during the school day.
  • Serve as a liaison among student-athletes, parents, coaches, faculty, to ensure effective communication regarding injury management and recovery.
  • Deliver emergency care and coordinate referrals to physicians or hospitals as appropriate.
  • Support the implementation of comprehensive rehabilitation and gradual return-to-play programs for student-athletes with injuries.
  • Detect and resolve risks to student-athletes and determine continued athletic participation.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential documentation of injuries, treatments, and communications.
  • Assist in providing CPR/AED certifications for Athletic Department coaches and faculty/staff as needed.
  • Assist in providing concussion management guidelines for student-athletes (6-12) regarding education, evaluation, return-to-learn, and return-to-participation.
  • Contribute to athletic injury prevention programs, including collaboration with strength and conditioning initiatives.
  • Participate in ongoing review and execution of the TAS Athletics’ emergency action plan.
  • Uphold professional, ethical, and legal standards in all athletic training practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer or Director of Athletics.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Athletic Training (or equivalent)
  • Board of Certification (BOC) Certified Athletic Trainer
  • BLS CPR/AED for Healthcare Provider Certification (meeting BOC Emergency Cardiac Care standards)

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist—National Strength and Conditioning Association®
  • Performance Exercise Specialist—National Academy of Sports Medicine™
  • Corrective Exercise Specialist—National Academy of Sports Medicine™
  • Master’s degree in related field
  • 2-3+ years’ experience working with secondary school student-athletes
