Scope of Services
- Provide appropriate speech/language services for students identified as having a range of speech/language needs that impact their educational performance.
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Learning Plans (ILPs) and Individualized Accommodation Plans (IAPs) based on evaluation data.
- Integrate support services instruction with regular classroom curriculum, when possible.
Assessment
- Conduct screenings, as well as initial and triennial speech/language evaluations per Student Resource Team determination.
- Provide culturally competent expertise to help distinguish language disorders from “something else” which might include cultural and linguistic differences, lack of adequate prior instruction, and the process of acquiring proficiency in academic English.
Consultation and Communication
- Act as an advocate for students within the Student Support Services program while also helping to promote their self-advocacy.
- Serve as case manager for students receiving speech and language services.
- Schedule and lead meetings with teachers, parents, and students to review evaluation results and present ILPs/IAPs.
- Maintain regular collaboration with classroom teachers regarding student needs, accommodations, and progress.
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding their child’s needs, interventions/accommodations, and progress via written reports, emails, phone calls, and conferences.
- Regularly collaborate and communicate with other SSS professionals within and across divisions to ensure wrap-around support.
- Assist with professional development opportunities for classroom teachers, parents and support services personnel, when appropriate.
Other duties and responsibilities
- Be an active member of TAS’ school life by taking part in a number of initiatives and school events, including leading a middle school homeroom, participating in Camp Taiwan and leading an after school club or activity.
Relevant degree and or certificate is required for SLP.
