Position Summary
The Instructional Coach is responsible for promoting and implementing Taipei American School’s vision for effective instructional pedagogy and practice in the Middle School. Their focus is on enriching and supporting teaching and learning while also enhancing and strengthening planning, assessment, and instruction of Middle School faculty. The Instructional Coach provides job-embedded professional development opportunities for all faculty and faculty who request assistance, as well as direct support for faculty identified as needing improvement. They are familiar with and skilled at curriculum development, assessment, and instruction. They should a be strong collaborator, effective communicator, and skilled educator.
Qualifications
We seek a motivated and flexible individual who understands how adults and students learn and can work in a shared and cooperative environment. This position requires a bachelor’s degree in education. A master’s degree in secondary education, adult education, or a related field is strongly preferred. Experience with working in a secondary or middle school classroom and working with English language learners and/or working in a diverse environment is preferred.
Position/Duties

Core Duties
- Promote and help implement the school's vision for effective curriculum development, assessment, and instruction.
- Work closely with the Middle School administrative team, including the Academic Dean.
- Serve as a member of the Academic Leadership team and attend Department Chair meetings.
- Participation in the planning and implementation of in-service training for new and returning faculty.
- Develop, in collaboration with the Academic Dean and Middle School Principal, professional development opportunities for the faculty. These may include, but are not exclusive: 1 to 1 coaching, co-teaching, lesson studies, faculty meeting activities, professional development day activities, book studies, and observation and feedback.
- Use data to advocate for initiatives/faculty professional development in the Middle School.
- Provide data on the impact the Instructional Coach has had on instruction in the classroom, and on the student learning experience.
- Homeroom duties as assigned by the Middle School Principal.
- Participate in MS Camp – 4 days/3 nights
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Peer Professional Development
- Coordinate, develop, and provide programs such as workshops, help sessions, learning communities, and training series to meet faculty needs and help realize the school's vision for learning.
- Assist in developing professional resources for faculty.
Personal Professional Growth
- Continue to grow as an educator and a leader. Stay informed about educational trends and developments. Participate in coaching training if they have not already done so.
- Serve as an ambassador for TAS by engaging in the larger professional community through meetings, conferences, presentations, publications, etc.
