Position Summary:
The Lower School Technology & Design Coach is responsible for developing and implementing Taipei American School’s STEAM program, digital literacy and wellness, and instructional use of technology. This person catalyzes innovative student thinking through collaboratively designing and providing support for authentic, engaging, problem-based STEAM projects and technology integration opportunities across multiple content areas.
This position primarily serves our Early Years (Pre-K to Grade 1) learners and faculty, requiring someone with both deep pedagogical understanding of early childhood education and expertise in STEAM and educational technology coaching. The ideal candidate will know how to translate complex design and technology concepts into developmentally appropriate, playful, and learning experiences that inspire curiosity, promote inquiry, and invite hands-on exploration.
This role involves a STEAM teaching load and a coaching role.
Qualifications
We seek a motivated and flexible individual who understands how both adults and young children learn and can work in a shared, collaborative environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in education, instructional technology, or a related field; a master’s degree is strongly preferred.
- Experience designing and implementing technology-rich, hands-on STEAM learning experiences for early years or lower elementary students.
- Proven ability to identify pedagogical needs and integrate design and technological solutions for lower school students, with authentic connections to digital wellness and digital literacy.
- Demonstrated success developing and implementing STEAM projects that promote creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving.
- Experience as an instructional coach guiding teachers in curriculum design and integration of educational technology and STEAM.

Position/Duties
1. Leadership
- Develop, implement, and articulate the lower school's vision for STEAM, effective technology use, digital wellness, and digital literacy.
- Collaborate with lower school faculty, fellow coaches/coordinators, librarians, lower school administration, and the Director of Educational Technology
- Model and promote design thinking.
- Showcase examples of STEAM implementation and effective technology use for students, parents, and the broader global community.
- Act as a STEAM and educational technology ambassador to parents, community guests, and other campus visitors.
2. Curriculum Support
- Collaborate with teachers to design, implement, and assess meaningful STEAM and technology-rich learning experiences that develop innovation, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
- Partner with teachers to embed design thinking, digital wellness, information and digital literacy throughout the curriculum in developmentally appropriate ways.
- Work collaboratively with teachers and teaching assistants to plan, teach, and support effective classroom technology integration and digital wellness instruction.
- Support teachers in aligning instruction with grade-level STEAM and technology benchmarks, ensuring coherence across the curriculum.
- Collaborate with the Pre-K to 12 technology & design team to maintain vertically aligned units and learning progressions across grade levels and divisions.
- Maintain safe, inclusive, and engaging physical and digital learning environments that encourage exploration, collaboration, and creativity.
3. STEAM Integration, Advocacy, and Instruction
- Collaborate with teachers to design unit and lesson plans grounded in a STEAM philosophy that fosters innovation, creativity, and problem-solving.
- Design and implement authentic learning experiences that draw upon student creativity and real-world problem-solving.
- Teach engaging STEAM lessons that model interdisciplinary, hands-on learning.
- Organize and facilitate campus STEAM events that highlight and celebrate student learning.
4. Technology Support
- Serve as a catalyst for effective and innovative use of technology across the lower school.
- Research, evaluate, and introduce emerging technologies and applications that support curriculum goals and student engagement.
- Provide guidance and troubleshooting support for digital platforms and learning management tools used by students and teachers.
- Develop and maintain an online technology resource hub for teachers, students, and parents, including tutorials, integration ideas, and software recommendations.
- Partner with division technology leaders to ensure consistency, efficiency, and innovation in the school’s use of digital tools and systems.
5. Peer Professional Development
- Design, coordinate, and facilitate professional learning opportunities that build faculty capacity and advance the school’s vision for STEAM and technology-enhanced learning.
- Lead Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) that promote reflective practice, collaborative inquiry, and continual improvement in STEAM instruction and technology integration.
- Communicate and share emerging trends, best practices, and success stories in STEAM and educational technology through faculty meetings, parent coffees, school communications, and social media.
6. Personal Professional Growth
- Commitment to continuous learning and innovation in leadership and teaching practices
- Serve as an ambassador for TAS by engaging in the larger professional community through training, meetings, conferences, presentations, publications, etc.
