Upper School Art Assistant

Job Summary:

The US Art Assistant is responsible for providing assistance where needed in and around the art studios/classes to support instruction and student learning.  

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Providing instructional support, supervision and hands-on assistance to students in the studios, outdoor workspace, or around campus when needed.
  • Assisting in prepping classes and the Ceramics studio, including but not limited to preparing material, mixing glazes, reclaiming clay, loading and unloading kilns to meet the curriculum and daily teaching needs of the art department.
  • Assisting in organizing, coordinating, and implementing all school exhibitions of student art works to ensure that displays as well as the art department present their best.
  • Assisting in maintaining classes, studios and storage rooms to ensure arts facilities maintenance and tidiness. Operating and maintaining our two laser cutters and CNC router and assisting with cutting student files. 
  • Designing promotional materials, such as posters, banners and signage for exhibition and art department events. Supporting the related work of the art department as requested. 

Selection criteria:      

  • College graduated in arts related field preferred
  • Background in visual arts related field, experience in installing exhibitions and working in ceramics preferred
  • Advanced English competency required and advanced Mandarin skills 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of art materials and terminology
  • Familiar with the Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop and Illustrator and willingness to learn new equipment and programs (such as 3D printer, laser cutter, etc.)
  • Able to lift and move heavy objects/materials (must be able to lift 20kgs) 
  • Effective planning, organizational, problem-solving and time-management skills
  • A team player that demonstrates dynamic teamwork, initiative, and a willingness to learn
  • Demonstrates flexibility, patience, and a positive attitude and acts as a role model to students

10-Month Position every school year

Work Schedule: 8-hour workday, exclusive of 0.5hr lunch break.
                         07:30am – 16:00 pm  Mon-Friday, school days
