JOB SUMMARY 

 The Child Safeguarding Coordinator (CSC) at Taipei American School (TAS) serves as the primary lead for safeguarding and child protection across the school, providing oversight, expertise, and support to ensure a safe and supportive learning environment. This role requires continuous professional growth, program development, and a proactive stance on student well-being. Working closely with faculty, staff, students, and families, the CSC promotes a culture of safety, trust, and collaboration in alignment with TAS’s mission, values, and policies.

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Education, Counseling, or a related field (Master’s or doctorate preferred) 
  • Minimum of three years of experience in a similar safeguarding role, ideally within a school or child-centered setting 
  • Extensive knowledge of safeguarding laws, child protection policies, and online safety measures. 
  • Certification in safeguarding or child protection (preferred) 
  • Fluent in English with strong written and oral communication skills 
  • Sensitivity to cultural differences and adaptability in a multi-cultural environment

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Professional Knowledge: 

  • Act as the designated safeguarding lead, taking full responsibility for child protection, including online safety, and ensuring all practices comply with local and international safeguarding standards. 
  • Regularly review and revise child protection policies, processes, and procedures, and ensure that these are effectively communicated and understood school wide. 
  • Lead training for all faculty and staff members to ensure ongoing awareness, responsiveness, and accountability in safeguarding practices. 
  • Participate in strategy discussions, inter-agency meetings, and contribute to child welfare assessments when necessary. 

Case Management and Referral Oversight:

  • Collaborate with the school’s leadership team to embed safeguarding within the school’s strategic framework and daily operations. 
  • Establish, monitor, and regularly review the school’s safeguarding policies to align with best practices, focusing on comprehensive student protection. 
  • Coordinate an annual safeguarding development plan that includes data-driven analysis, program effectiveness assessments, and adjustments aligned with emerging needs. 
  • Organize and support safe recruitment practices to maintain a secure school environment. 

Training and Development: 

  • Design and coordinate a comprehensive training program for all TAS staff and stakeholders, ensuring robust knowledge and skills in safeguarding and child protection. 
  • Lead specialized training initiatives addressing specific safeguarding topics, such as online safety, mental health, and managing disclosures of abuse. 
  • Ensure that all new and part-time faculty are thoroughly trained in safeguarding policies and procedures as part of their induction.  

Data and Communication Management 

  • Maintain detailed, accurate records of all safeguarding concerns and referrals, ensuring compliance with data protection laws. 
  • Provide regular updates to the school leadership and governing body on safeguarding matters, preparing reports and presenting data as required. 
  • Facilitate information-sharing practices among relevant parties to support child protection while upholding confidentiality. 
  • Encourage a culture of listening to children, valuing their voices in shaping a supportive, responsive school environment. 

 Community and Collaboration: 

  • Work in close collaboration with the Compliance and Regulatory Manager to ensure that all safeguarding protocols and practices meet or exceed regulatory requirements and are effectively implemented across the school. This partnership supports an integrated approach to compliance, accountability, and continuous improvement in child protection measures. 
  • Build strong relationships with students, parents, and external agencies to foster a network of support for child protection and student well-being. 
  • Collaborate with the school’s mental health team, counselors, and wellness staff to provide holistic support addressing the interconnected needs of safeguarding and mental health. 
  • Provide guidance on safeguarding content integration within the school’s curriculum, particularly within health, well-being, and digital citizenship programs.
