JOB SUMMARY 

Taipei American School seeks a dynamic, talented, and experienced individual to join our outstanding College Counseling office in the role of a College Counselor beginning in the 2025-2026 academic year. We seek an individual with independent school college counseling and/or selective university admissions experience. This person should be well-versed in the complex and current realm of US as well as

international (primarily UK, Canada, Australia, and some European countries) university application processes and systems.   

Overall Function: 

To assist in the administration of a comprehensive college counseling program for all students.   

Essential Functions of the Position: 

  1. Student Counseling & Support. Counsel students throughout the college search and application process, including effective college research skills, self-reflection exercises, goal-setting, self-advocacy, and application completion, all with an emphasis on institutional “fit.” Coach students on writing effective personal and school-specific essays, suggesting topics as well as edits to strengthen these student-produced works. Also provide support through the required school-based components of the application, including producing an individualized, comprehensive counselor letter of recommendation for each student in the counseling cohort. 
  2. Constituency Education. Educate parents, students, faculty, and administrators regarding all aspects of the college application process through presentations, meetings, and individual conversations. Help educate college admissions representatives about Taipei American School community, history, and our students. 
  3. Relationship Building. Consult regularly with college admissions representatives on current practices and admissions trends and to advocate on behalf of student applicants through conversations, email interactions, attendance at conferences, participation in visitation programs, and hosting college admissions representatives on campus at TAS. Extensive international travel is an expectation. 
  4. Professional Development. Pursue opportunities for professional growth and school exposure through participation in professional organizations such as the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC), the International Association for College Admission Counseling (IACAC), the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), The College Board, ACT, and the like.
  5. Community Partnership. Work collaboratively with faculty and staff to appropriately support college counseling programming and to advise on related areas of school life while also effectively integrating into the life of the school community. Liaise with Personal & Academic (Social Emotional) Counseling team as well as Upper School Administration to support students. 

Hours of Work: 

This is a full-time position following a standard 10-month faculty calendar; however, there is an additional responsibility stipend that compensates for additional and expected work over the summer months. Other duties and responsibilities may be negotiated on top of this workload.  

Qualifications: 

  • Master’s Degree preferred in education or school leadership; 
  • Experience in leading, educating, or consulting, preferably in high school college counseling or in college admissions; 
  • Experience working with diverse, multicultural, and multilingual student and parent populations preferred; 
  • Expertise in using and training others on the use of college application/educational technology and software (Cialfo, MaiaLearning, PowerSchool, Unifrog, etc.) as well as national platforms (Common Application, University of California, UCAS, OUAC, StudieLink, etc.); 
  • Preferred Skills & Qualities: organized, collaborative, supportive, ambitious, outgoing, service-oriented, strong communication and presentation skills, attention to detail, outstanding writing skills, capable of working with multiple constituencies (including students, parents, faculty, staff, administrators, trustees), strong work ethic and ability to multi-task.
