JOB SUMMARY

The nurse is responsible for carrying out the required health services for students in accordance with school policies and procedures. Health services includes evaluating patient complaints and using professional judgment in providing comfort and care, making referrals to doctors, and keeping parents, teachers and administrators informed on an as needed basis. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide nursing services for sick or injured students on campus and on school sponsored trips off campus as directed.
  • Collect and maintain health records for each student using the school's data management systems, including immunization records and medical examination forms, and notifying parents when updates are needed.
  • Inform parents about illness, injuries and potential health problems and provide health counseling directed toward pursuit of appropriate action within the scope authorized under the RN license.
  • Serve as a member of an interdisciplinary team in support of students with specific medical concerns.
  • Inform teachers, administrators and parents of communicable health concerns in classrooms.
  • Dispense and maintain daily medications and emergency medications when authorized by parents and physicians and inform parents when updates are needed.
  • Chart each patient with accurate and appropriate details.
  • Conduct health screenings for students including vision screens, hearing screens, and drug testing.    
  • Prepare first-aid kits and emergency medications for off campus or extracurricular  events as needed.
  • Assist in preparation and attendance of middle school camp as assigned.
  • Maintaining emergency medical equipment on campus, including AED’s, emergency medical bags, and emergency supplies in disaster shed.
  • Consult with family medical practitioners when needed.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and supports team members.
  • Maintain and replenish medical supplies and equipment as needed within budgetary limits.
  • Assist in identification of safety and health hazards on the school campus.
  • Other duties as assigned by head nurse, which may include health office projects, administrative work or supporting divisional functions as needed.
  • Participate in the School's professional growth programs by cooperating with the Head Nurse in the School's Professional Growth and Evaluation Process.
REQUIRED SKILLS
  • Strong Communication Skills
  • Fluency in both oral and written English
  • Fluency in Mandarin is a plus
QUALIFICATIONS
  • BSN degree
  • Valid RN certification
  • Valid CPR certification
  • At least two years full time nursing experience in a hospital or school
