Upper School History and Social Studies Assistant

Job Summary:

The Upper School History Assistant is responsible for assisting the Social Studies department with administrative tasks and maintenance of the Social Studies department office.  

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take responsibility in ensuring a well-run office by providing administrative support to teachers in typing, scanning, photocopy, general supplies inventory, office orderliness, and communication within and out of all TAS community members.
  • Manage and monitor department budget to ensure budget integrity - no overrun or surplus. Review spending frequently and report department expenditures monthly. 
  • Communicate with different departments within TAS as well as vendors in order to prepare purchase orders to ensure History department’s purchase needs are met in a timely manner. 
  • Monitor buildings and facilities maintenance and schedules to ensure History classroom maintenance is in sync and planned accordingly. This includes but not limited to IT demands of computer and peripherals. 
  • Support History Supervisor on any administrative related assignments as requested. 
  • Support and maintain the textbook system, which includes issuing and receiving physical textbooks.
  • Help organize and arrange field trips for specific History department classes—not to include organizing of the National Palace Museum trip.
  • Help take photographs of classroom activities for use in the upper school course catalog and as needed for History teachers.

Selection criteria:      

  • College graduate, Minimum of two years successful secretarial and accounting related preferred
  • English upper intermediate, Mandarin fluent
  • Accounting concept 
  • Proficient in MS Office, Outlook, Photoshop, and use of computer peripherals 
  • Event planning and coordination skills 
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills 
  • Knowledge of office equipment (printers, scanners, copiers) and ability to troubleshoot basic technical issues

10-month position every school year   

Work Schedule: 07:30 AM to 16:00 PM, inclusive 0.5  hour lunch break
