K-8 ML Teaching Assistant

Job Summary:

The K-8 ML Teaching Assistant role is designed to promote the language development of multilingual learners with emergent English language skills. This K-8 ML Teaching Assistant specializes in supporting language instruction and development, requiring specific skills and collaboration with K-8 ML Specialists. 

Key Responsibilities:

Instructional Support

  • with K-18 ML Specialists, co-assess language development using WIDA tools
  • with K-8 ML Specialists, co-plan targeted language instruction for emergent English learners
  • independently teach targeted language instruction for emergent English learners - 1:1 and small group
  • use technology to successfully manage language materials/scaffolds and data
  • copy, use, and distribute language materials/ scaffolds
  • with K-8 ML Specialists, monitor student language development using WIDA tools
  • work flexibly across grade levels, teachers, and students
  • support K-8 ML Specialists with presentation/workshop preparation
  • participate in K-8 ML Department professional learning
  • attend & assist with all K-8 ML events & ML meetings

General Duties and Student Support

  • promote school values & rules to help teach acceptable behavior
  • assist teachers during emergency procedures

Divisional Duties and Support

  • other tasks, projects or initiatives as assigned by K-8 ML Coordinator

Selection criteria:      

  • College graduate in early childhood education, elementary, English language education, or related field
  • Relevant teaching or educational certification would be a plus
  • English language/early childhood/elementary experience or three years full- time working experience in a similar environment
  • Fluent English, Fluent Mandarin
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skill
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to be flexible, patient and nurturing when working with young children
  • Demonstrates strong computing skills and a proven ability to learn new technologies and data tools
  • Flexibility to handle multitasking with effective organizational and prioritizing skills with attention to detail
  • Strong understanding of behavior management strategies effective for young children
  • Enjoys working with children
  • Ability to accomplish a variety of daily tasks/responsibilities in an efficient & effective manner

10-Month Position every school year 

Working Hours: 07:30AM to 16:00PM, inclusive 0.5 hour lunch break 
Expected Start Date: August 2025
