Aquatics Lifeguard
Job Summary:
The Lifeguard / Aquatics Assistant plays a vital role in the safe operation and supervision of the swimming pool and aquatic programs. This role supports pool management, safety, facility logistics, program activities, and administrative operations under the direction of the Aquatics Director and Faculty.
Key Responsibilities:
Pool Management, Supervision and Lifeguard Duties
- Act as a supervising lifeguard during all scheduled classes, swim teams, recreational swim times, and any other times individuals are present in the pool area.
- Monitor the pool and deck area to ensure the safety of all users and enforce pool rules and regulations.
- Ensure Aquatics Department safety policies are consistently followed.
- Be certified in emergency response and proficient in performing basic First Aid and CPR/AED.
- Understand and respond effectively to water quality problems or emergencies.
- Understand the TAS emergency response procedures and coordinate with nurses, athletic trainers, or other departments as necessary.
- Use and maintain lifeguard rescue equipment proficiently.
- Assist with pool facility event/activity set up and break down
Aquatics Department & Pool Logistics and Administrative Support
- Monitor and assist with maintaining pool water quality and cleanliness, including communication with custodial and maintenance staff as required.
- Use and monitor digital water quality logs provided by the maintenance department.
- Operate pool maintenance equipment such as vacuums and report any maintenance or custodial issues to the appropriate departments.
- Take attendance and track usage for faculty and staff swim sessions; log this data digitally.
- Use competent computer skills to manage email, scheduling, and maintenance/custodial requests.
- Assist the Aquatics Director and Faculty with administrative or operational tasks when not engaged in pool supervision.
Instructional and Activities Support
- Support and assist with pool events, aquatic classes, swim practices, and competitions in a lifeguard or support capacity as required.
- Provide logistical help during aquatic programming to ensure safety and smooth execution of sessions.
Other Assignments
- Carry out other duties as assigned by the Aquatics Director or Aquatics Faculty to support the overall functioning of the department.
Selection criteria:
- A college degree is required, preferably in a relevant field such as Physical Education
- Valid Taiwan recognized Lifeguard certification is required. This must include certification in emergency first response, CPR and AED use
- Native Mandarin Speaker; A good standard of English competency is preferred
- Experience as a lifeguard is essential. Experience working within or with schools is preferred
- Proficient in performing the duties expected of a certified lifeguard
- Able to meet the physical demands expected of a lifeguard; being a strong swimmer, perform rescues, comfortable performing physical tasks around the pool
- Knowledge of pool facility safety, equipment and operations requirements and ensure compliance with rules and regulations
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work within the TAS Aquatics team and associated departments
- Flexible working hours – be available for aquatics activities that take place outside of regular school hours
10-Month Position every school year
Work Schedule: 8-hour workday, exclusive of 0.5hr lunch break.
10:30am – 7:00pm. Mon-Friday, school days
(Flexibility is expected to support school events and programs based on operational needs)
